A quick interview with Andrea Knight, 4th Place Women’s Weight Loss who lost 16.3kgs in the New Year 2016 Challenge!

Q: Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

Before I started the challenge I’ve tried various eating plans. I’ve joined gyms, went once or twice and then would just give up due to feeling uncomfortable in a space where only “fit” people go. At one point I decided to get a personal trainer, that didn’t work out either as she basically told me if she didn’t start seeing results she would not be my trainer anymore. At this point I felt like I had no support and gave up…

Q: What prompted you to join the Ultimate You Transformation Challenge?

My husband brought me back to reality though. A week or two before the challenge for the first time he shared his biggest fear with me. The fear of losing me due to my health. He mentioned that he goes to bed every night not knowing if I will wake up in the morning. This was an extremely scary thought as I always thought of myself as a relatively healthy overweight person but that’s not true at all. I realised I had to do something.

Q: Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

I manage to lose weight through healthy eating and regular exercise. I decided to follow the low carb paleo plan that is provided when you sign up for the challenge along with various cardiovascular exercises. I did not follow the low carb plan strictly though, I included diary every now and again.

Q: Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.

As for exercise, I am lucky enough to have an elyptical and use it often. I also tried to walk frequently throughout the day, reaching those steps became a priority.

Q: If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

If I could give anyone advice that’s wondering whether or not they should do the challenge I would say “Do it!” It’s probably one of the more worthwhile things that you’ll ever spend your money on. It provides you with the necessary kick in the bum to start your journey, to write your own story instead of reading countless other stories. It gives you focus and you have an amazing group that supports you. Eight weeks may seem like a long time but believe me it goes so quickly. The progress after eight weeks is completely up to you. Make every day count!

The challenge gave me my passion for life back, something that I thought was gone forever.
