A quick interview withMadri Harding, 5th Place Women’s Transformation in the New Year 2016 Challenge!

Q: Give us a short history of your journey to health and fitness before the challenge.

I have boys  of 5 years and 2 years and struggled to lose weight.  Started a year ago with a healthy eating plan and exercise, which was a challenge to find time with a full time job and two small kids taking up a lot of time.  I lost about 7kg over some months before the challenge and then needed something to motivate me for the last kilos.

Q: What prompted you to join the Ultimate You Transformation Challenge?

I needed something to motivate me to lose the last bit of pregnancy fat. I am one of those people that needs to report to someone and needs motivation.

Q: Give us a quick overview of the nutrition and eating plan that you followed during the challenge.

I did the Ultimate Banting diet for the first 3 weeks and then changed over to low carb, low fat and no sugar diet, eating mainly fish & chicken and loads of vegetables and salads.

Q: Give us a quick overview of the training and exercise plan that you followed during the challenge.

I started with exercise x3 a week and never thought I will be able to get time for more commitment with kids and work, but I managed to train at least x5 week and I loved it. Me and hubby went at 5:00 in the morning and loved the wake- up call and we still do. Such a blessing to do this together. I do weight training with a personal trainer at least x3 a week with a minimum of 40 min intense cardio.

Q: Did you use any supplements or do anything else worth mentioning to help you get results?

I did use L-Carnitine x1 day and CLA x2 day, no other supplements.

Q: If you could give 3 pieces of advice to future challengers, what would they be?

  1. Preparation is your best friend!!!!  Prepare your food at least 3 days in advance, otherwise you will not stick to your eating plan when life gets busy.
  2. Try to exercise with a friend or your partner.
  3. Do your eating plan and preparation with a partner as well, it makes it easier and to have someone to keep you accountable.

Q: What did you find most valuable about your experience?

If at all possible make it a life style and not just a diet.  It would have been a much bigger challenge if I had to do this alone, especially the eating plan.  Me and hubby did it together and even the kids are choosing healthier choices.

Believe it or not, but the quality time we spend together as family was very special.  When we went on holiday over Easter, the kids  exercised with us.  I know we are forming a platform for a healthier lifestyle for them.  What a privilege to be the winner of the Ultimate couples challenge and a 5th place in the women’s challenge, it brought us even closer together and showed us that together we are even stronger!

Thank you Elan Lohmann and team !!!
